At General Mechanical, we have developed a safety culture that promotes and provides the safest workplace possible. We are committed to performing every task on every job in a manner that ensures the overall safety of our workers, subcontractors, clients, and the general public... and we have the record to prove it! Our safety program philosophy is “All-Inclusive”, involving every apprentice, journeyman, foreman, project manager, owner, and subcontractor. We are dedicated to elevating the standards of safety in the construction industry through a variety of methods — from zero-tolerance drug testing, to our aggressive new-hire orientation, to our safety policies and OSHA 30 training for our site foremen.
Before beginning each project, we conduct pre-construction safety meetings specific to the jobsite, in which we proactively identify all possible impacts to safe operations and activities. We develop site-specific safety plans for each project, and AHAs (Activity Hazard Analysis) are used to analyze specific tasks to prevent dangerous situations. During construction we hold mandatory weekly safety meetings to ensure that site-specific concerns are clearly communicated to all parties. We also hold refresher “tailgate” safety meetings prior to each major activity, such as concrete pours or critical crane picks.
Our all-union workforce comes to us highly trained, but we go a step further and have partnered with the SMART association which provides innovative training and education programs to equip our employees and subcontractors with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to increase safety, reduce risk, and manage loss control on every project.
