The project was to expand and upgrade a wood treatment facility by installing a new 120 foot long full-size retort (compression chamber), doubling the length of an existing retort, and enabling new control capabilities on all five retorts. All while maintaining an operational facility.
To accommodate the new retort, existing equipment and piping were relocated temporarily or to new locations. The foundations to support the new retorts required 12 auger cast piles to a depth of 65 feet. Both the containment area enclosure and overhead canopy were extended. Multiple pumps, vessels, and tanks were also installed as part of the retort chemical system. The other retorts had to remain operational throughout the construction while at the same time meeting the schedule.
